A Peace and Justice Statement
October 11, 2001
The National Conference of Viet Nam Veteran Ministers, meeting in Racine, WI, October 8 to
October 12, 2001, and after prayerful reflection, issued the following statement regarding the
Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) service-connected disability compensation payments and
military retirement pay offset:
We fully support the recent actions taken by Vietnam Veterans of America, at its National
Convention in Greensboro, NC, and affirm our support for federal legislation accompanied by full
authorization and appropriations of necessary funds to allow concurrent payment of military
retirement and DVA compensation, and join in asserting the following:
1. Concurrent payment of DVA compensation and military retirement shall be paid when the
individual's retirement is based upon length of service.
2. Retirees shall be entitled to concurrent DVA compensation for any new or secondary disability
established by the DVA as service-connected subsequent to retirement.
